Elaine is a 70 year-old with lower back disorder. She is generally able to walk at a regular pace, yet finds that bending over is particularly difficult for her. As a result she takes more time to dress. This includes her morning dressing routine, such as putting on her clothing required for the day, her additional dressing needs during the day, such putting on her shoes or outer wear, and her evening routine, such as putting on her bed clothes. She explained that when bending over to put on her pants, leg wear, stockings, or socks she would take much more time due to her reduced dexterity and strength, and her pain. She also shared that she was purchasing special clothing that was easier to put on, and looser pant and leg wear, that also was easier to put on. Overall, Elaine reported that her daily dressing was taking her longer than an average person, an inordinate amount of time.
Elaine was not very comfortable with preparing forms and talking to her doctor about her dressing restrictions, and appreciated our help in preparing a letter to her doctor explaining the DTC rules for slowed patients, particularly those who dress slower, and how her specific medical conditions causes her reduced dexterity and strength, and causes her pain when dressing, as well as how she is making use of specialized and/or loose fitting clothing and footwear that is easier for her to dress with. We also provided an example completed DTC Certificate (application form) to the doctor to help guide them on how to accurately and appropriately complete her form. The doctor appreciated our guidance and knowledge, stating that it was clearly based on accurate understanding of the DTC qualifying criteria and the DTC Certificate requirements.
Elaine was approved for 4 years, back to the year she began dressing slower and received $9,486 in benefits, and was approved for all future years.
